Prepare every circuit for winter and make restart easier.
An Endless Pools swim spa represents a significant investment. Thanks to its insulation and heating system, it can remain operational year-round, even during a Quebec winter. Many owners choose to continue swimming, training, or enjoying the spa area despite the snow and cold.
However, if you do not plan to use it for several weeks or throughout the entire cold season, it is not enough simply to turn off the power and drain the shell. Water can easily remain trapped in the pumps, heater, skimmer, drain, jets, and pipes. When it freezes, this small amount of water can expand and crack a component or pipe.
Complete winterization of a swim spa is therefore a lengthy and meticulous task. The procedure varies depending on the model, year, number of pumps, and whether equipment such as a treadmill is present. This guide presents the principles applicable to recent Endless Pools models and the practices recommended by Piscine Hippocampe. Always consult the manual corresponding to your serial number.

This guide mainly concerns self-contained Endless Pools E-, X- and R-Series swim spas. Original Series, WaterWell and Streamline modular pools may require different water levels and procedures. Do not automatically apply complete shell drainage to them.
Identify model, year and serial number, plus any separate basins, treadmill, hydraulic power unit or later-added equipment. Exterior dimensions alone do not identify the plumbing.
| Your situation | Preparation |
|---|---|
| You swim and can monitor the unit | Maintain heating, circulation and water care. Check level, filters and alerts. |
| You leave but someone provides care | Prepare a manual-compliant absence routine and service contact details. |
| The property remains unattended for a long period | Arrange complete professional winterization before freezing weather. |
| The unit has failed or may be partly frozen | Seek prompt assistance. Draining the basin alone does not protect plumbing. |
A running unit requires actual checks. Connected apps and automatic freeze modes are aids dependent on equipment operation and power.
Yes, an Endless Pools swim spa can operate through winter with proper heating, maintenance and monitoring. Piscine Hippocampe’s guideline for a unit kept running during Quebec winters is approximately 80°F / 27°C. Confirm this local operating advice for your model and situation; it is not a guarantee against freezing.
Maintain prescribed water level, circulation, filtration and water balance. Inspect filters and error messages. A normal basin temperature alone does not confirm proper operation throughout all plumbing.
A compatible remote-control option lets you check supported functions. The product currently shown in our store is Gecko in.touch 3, which must match the exact control-pack version. An older in.touch 2 and an in.touch 3 are not automatically interchangeable.
Send a control-pack label photo before buying. Some Gecko Y Series versions are compatible; other generations and manufacturers need a different solution. App functions and notifications depend on configuration.
Test connectivity before leaving and arrange someone who can attend in person. Power, internet or communication failures may prevent remote access.

Confirm the Gecko controller reference and version. Remote checks complement in-person inspections.
Check compatibility →Plan the closure before the first below-freezing temperatures. Choose a dry day that is warm enough to work without rushing. Do not wait for the first freezing night: the process takes much longer than draining a traditional spa.
A prolonged absence in the middle of winter requires a clear decision. Either the spa remains operational with reliable monitoring, or it is completely winterized. The intermediate solution of turning off the power while leaving water in the circuits is the riskiest.
Endless Pools instructions distinguish, among other things, older Spa Series models from Fitness Systems manufactured since 2017. Current models may also include a swim area, an independent spa area, multiple pumps, or a hydraulic swim treadmill. Identify the model, year, and serial number before opening the equipment compartment.
Photograph the nameplate and the equipment compartment.
Locate all pumps, the heater, drains, and union fittings.
Check whether the spa has a swim treadmill or two independent basins.
Prepare a diagram or take photos before disconnecting a fitting.
Consult the manual for the exact model.
The Fitness Systems manual is a reference for certain configurations. Confirm the manual for your series and year; modular-pool instructions differ from self-contained swim spa instructions.
Gather all the materials before draining. Once the basin is empty, the spa must not be left unprotected while looking for a missing product.
| Equipment or product | Use |
|---|---|
| Submersible pump and hose | Speed up draining and move water away from the spa base. |
| Wet/dry vacuum | Vacuum water from the jets, filter compartments, drains, suction fittings, and lines. |
| Mineraluxe Cleanse & Drain | Clean the lines and dislodge residue before draining. |
| Mineraluxe Filter Revive | Clean the cartridges before drying and storing them. |
| 4 gallons of Dazzle Premium antifreeze | Protect circuits that are difficult to drain. The amount actually used varies by spa model. |
| Resealable bags and labels | Group and identify the O-rings, caps, and other small parts that were removed. |
| Spa cover locks | Support certain types of covers and reduce the risk of sagging under the weight of snow. |
| Heavy-duty cover and fasteners | Protect the entire outdoor spa from water, snow, and the elements. |
Start before freezing temperatures arrive and allow several hours. The area around the spa must be clear, the ground safe, and the water discharge planned away from the foundation and the electrical compartment.
Confirm whether cleaning is needed, which product is compatible and the dose for actual volume. Minéraluxe Cleanse & Drain may be used when recommended for the installation. Follow its label for dose, filters and circulation time. Complete this while the unit is full and operating normally; do not try circulating cleaner through drained equipment.
Set the relevant breaker(s) and disconnects to OFF according to the installation. The control panel alone does not disconnect power. Identify all supplies, including auxiliary equipment, and prevent accidental startup. Pumps and heaters must never run dry.
Open the drain according to the manual and use a submersible pump to speed up the process. Direct the water to a suitable location. The built-in drain may leave some water at the bottom; remove it afterward with the wet/dry vacuum.
For two-basin units, plan drainage for each compartment. Follow discharge requirements and keep large volumes away from foundations, equipment and areas susceptible to flooding.
Remove all cartridges. Clean them with Mineraluxe Filter Revive, rinse them thoroughly, let them dry completely, and store them in a dry, frost-free place. Do not leave wet cartridges in the compartment.
Identify openings and circuits before applying suction. Use suitable wet/dry equipment and follow the manual’s sequence, openings and valve positions. No visible water at the filter does not prove remote low points are empty.
Open the air controls. Vacuum each jet, the floor suctions, and the other openings. Depending on the model, some jets are difficult to access; alternate between vacuuming and blowing when the manufacturer's procedure and the equipment allow it.
Remove the necessary panels to access the pumps, heater, and pipes. Take photos before beginning any work. Each swim spa may have a different configuration, particularly if it includes two pools or multiple massage systems.
Identify water-circuit unions and drain plugs to open according to the manual. Collect water and seals without forcing fittings. Several drainage points may be required; one open union does not establish complete drainage. Use a technician when circuits or components are unidentified.
Account for drains, suction lines and accessories in the closing plan. Ozone requires separate precautions: Endless Pools warns that corrosive condensation may collect in tubing loops. Do not vacuum or drain it yourself; have a qualified ozone technician handle this circuit. UV equipment also requires its own procedure.
After removing water, use only pool/spa antifreeze compatible with the unit and its label. Confirm application points and quantities. Do not pour products into electrical, hydraulic, ozone or unidentified circuits. Never use automotive antifreeze.
A treadmill may include components and a heat exchanger requiring specific service. Have a technician identify its water circuit and drainage method. Do not confuse fluid-filled hydraulic hoses with water lines to purge. Check equipment for each compartment separately on two-basin units.
Store removed seals and parts in a labelled container. Some procedures leave unions open for drying; confirm the configuration for your model. Protect components from debris and incoming water as prescribed, without randomly sealing a required drain opening.
Vacuum the remaining water from the floor, seats, around the jets, beneath the accessories, and under the treadmill, if present. Take the necessary time: draining and drying a swim spa is a lengthy process, and the quality of this step determines the protection against freezing.
Securely replace the mechanical compartment panels. Depending on the type of cover, add spa closing blocks to support its structure. Then cover the outdoor spa with a sturdy, securely fastened tarp to prevent rain and snow from entering the empty basin.
Swim and hot tub compartments may have different volumes, temperatures and circuits. Identify each side’s filters, pumps, drains and accessories. An empty compartment does not prove the other is protected. Keep separate checklists for each basin.
Have the water circuit and fluid-filled hydraulic circuit identified. They are not drained the same way. Do not disconnect hydraulic hoses as part of an ordinary water drain or pour pool antifreeze into that circuit. A technician should confirm the relevant heat exchangers and water-drainage points.
Remove exercise attachments and mobile accessories according to their instructions. Photograph their positions and label stored parts.
Antifreeze complements the prescribed procedure; it does not compensate for forgotten plumbing or excess residual water that could dilute it. Confirm formulation, quantity and compatibility. Our store’s product is Premium Dazzle pool and spa antifreeze.
A swim spa cover may need to support significant weight during the winter. Depending on its type, span, and condition, closing blocks placed inside the basin can help support the structure and limit sagging. Their number and position must be adapted to the cover.
Blocks do not replace winter maintenance. Regularly remove accumulated snow and water, check the fasteners after strong winds, and make sure the tarp remains watertight. Endless Pools recommends additional interior support in regions with heavy snowfall.
Confirm quantities, fittings and dimensions before ordering. Model and configuration remain decisive; supplies do not replace identifying every circuit.

Give service the model, actual temperature, error messages and when the problem began. There is no universal protection period: wind, outside temperature, insulation and circulation all matter.
Faulty equipment requires instructions appropriate to the fault. Advice to keep a functioning unit powered does not mean defective electrical equipment should remain energized.
Visually check attachments, panels and the cover. Gently remove accumulations with a non-abrasive tool and never walk on the cover. If damaged protection lets water in, correct the entry point and have areas that may have refilled checked.
Arrange ongoing checks during absences. Leave photos, service contacts and a label reading “winterized unit — power OFF — do not start.” An exterior protective cover alone does not guarantee the entire installation stays watertight.
| Error | Risk |
|---|---|
| Cutting power without closing the spa | Water remains in the lines and can freeze quickly. |
| Draining only the shell | The pumps, heater, and low points can retain a significant amount of water. |
| Starting too late | A first night below freezing can damage the system before the work is even finished. |
| Relying solely on antifreeze | Antifreeze can be diluted and lose its effectiveness if the plumbing has not first been properly drained. |
| Restoring power to an empty spa | The pumps and heater can be damaged almost immediately. |
| Forgetting the swim current | On some models, the heat exchanger and swim-current plumbing form a separate circuit that must also be winterized. |
| Leaving the cover unsupported | The weight of snow can bend or collapse the cover and encourage water infiltration. |
| Losing union gaskets | Missing or improperly replaced gaskets can cause leaks and delay spring start-up. |
Plan opening when filling and startup can be completed without prolonged interruption. Missing seals or forgotten circuits should be resolved before startup.
Yes, with functioning equipment, maintenance and monitoring. Piscine Hippocampe’s local guideline is about 80°F / 27°C, to confirm for the unit and usage. Temperature does not replace level, filter, flow and alarm checks.
No. This is a supply guideline to confirm for the installation. Dose and application points depend on the manual, label and circuits. Do not automatically use all available product.
No. Confirm quantity using actual volume and product directions. Treat independent circuits in two-basin units separately.
Have a qualified technician handle this circuit. Some systems may contain corrosive condensation and must not be treated like an ordinary water line.
No. It helps check supported information but depends on power, network and compatibility. Arrange an in-person contact.
No. Confirm control-pack model, generation and module reference before purchasing. Send a label photo for assistance.
Need, number and position depend on the cover. Confirm a suitable layout; supports do not replace snow removal.
Power disconnection is necessary before draining, but an empty shell can still conceal water in equipment. Winterization must address all relevant circuits.
A technician experienced with Endless Pools knows the hidden lines, pumps, drains, heat exchangers and model-specific features. A single forgotten line can lead to a costly repair.
